Paul Pauwels

Paul Pauwels has been the director of the European Documentary Network since 2013. He studied at RITCS film school in Brussels where he received his degree as director and producer. In 1987 he founded his own production company Periscope Productions. The company was sold when in 2005 Pauwels was invited to become programme manager at Flemish public broadcaster VRT. Having been in charge of the science and history department and the liaison officer with the independent documentary community, Pauwels left his position in 2007 to become project manager for the EUROPEAN TELEVISION AND MEDIA MANAGEMENT ACADEMY in Strasbourg, France. In the same year, he was nominated the director of this international training institute, a position he occupied until October 2011, when the school ended its activities in Strasbourg. Paul Pauwels still teaches Documentary Production at the LUCA School of Arts in Belgium. In 2012-2013 he became the managing director and in a later stage the owner/producer of production company Congoo BVBA, combining international production with activities as an expert, moderator and tutor for train-ing organizations. Pauwels is a member of the General Assembly of the Flanders Film Fund (VAF).
