Le Blues de l’Orient

Director: Florence Strauss

Florence Strauss

The Paris-based filmmaker Florence Strauss has Egyptian roots: her grandfather Robert Hakim, who was born into a Jewish family in Cairo, broke all ties with nationalist Egypt and settled down in Paris in the 50s where he already worked as a filmproducer (Antonioni’s “Eclisse”, 1962, Buñuel’s “Belle de Jour”, 1967).

As a screenwriter and director, Florence Strauss has also adapted several literary works and theatre plays. “Le Blues de l´Orient”, her debut documentary film, was awarded the Best Reportage Prize at the International Festival of Films on Art Montréal 2007.
