Andrew Neel

Andrew Neel, the 28-year-old grandson of the painter Alice Neel, started working in film in 2000 and won the Audience Award at South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas with his first documentary “Darkon” (2006). As a child, he frequently travelled from his parent’s house in rural Vermont to visit Alice Neel at her studio in Manhattan; she painted him twice during childhood. In 2002, he founded SeeThink Productions for the making of his first 35mm short film, “billy 528”, which won Best Experimental Drama at the New York Film and Video Festival in 2002.

“Alice Neel” won the Audience Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival. He is currently directing a film together with New York video artist Michel Auder. He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
