Tomorrow, September 19th DOKU.ARTS, the International Festival for Films on Art begins at the Academy of Arts, Hanseatenweg 10 Berlin-Tiergarten. Until September 23rd, 2007, remarkable documentaries will be shown in the 500 seat cinema.

The festivals starts with the film “Un soleil à Kaboul … ou plutôt deux” about the French directress of the Paris based Théâtre du Soleil and her workshop with Afghan actors in Kabul. Filmmakers Sergio Canto Sabido and Philippe Chevallier as well as the actress of Théâtre du Soleil, Marjolaine Larranga, and producer François Duplat will be in Berlin and take part in the filmtalk moderated by Nele Hertling (Vice President of the Academy of Arts) that will take place after the screening.

Guests / Filmtalks

The following members of the Academy of Arts will take part in filmtalks or make introductions: Heinrich Moldenschardt (Architect), Ivan Nagel (Writer), Hans Helmut Prinzler (Director, Department of Film and Media Art), Michael Ruetz (Photographer) and Jan Schütte (Filmmaker). Further members (Jürgen Flimm, Harald Hartung, Nicolaus A. Huber, Ingo Schulze) gave helpful advice to DOKU.ARTS.

New in the DOKU.ARTS program:

“Kosta 3:30” (Directors: Mikael Olsson, Andreas Roth, Sweden 2006).
With static takes and an electronic soundtrack by composer Carsten Nicolai that creates an alienating and surreal atmosphere, the Swedish photographer Mikael Olsson and the artist Andreas Roth show abandoned row houses from Kosta, Sweden.

DOKU.ARTS screens “Kosta 3:30” in combination with “Sound on Life” on Saturday, September 22nd, 2007, at 2:30 p.m.

The program includes, for instance, documentaries on Robert Altman, Louise Bourgeois, Marlon Brando, Edward Burtynsky, Hilde Domin, Michael Hamburger, Chris Marker, Ariane Mnouchkine, Haruki Murakami, Walter Murch and Peter Sellars.
