Jan Schmidt-Garre
Jan Schmidt-Garre, born in 1962 in Munich, studied Philosophy and then Film at the University for Film and Television in Munich. He worked as an assistant director under directors such as Rudolf Noelte, Jean-Pierre Ponnelle and Harry Kupfer. Schmidt-Garre has made several films on art, among others on John Baldessari, Saburo Teshigawara and the conductor Sergiu Celibidache.
Celibidache (1992) won the Silver Medal at the Chicago Film Festival and was nominated for the German Film Prize. "Opera Fanatic" (1998) was awarded the "Czech Crystal" at "Golden Prague".
